Ranil and Kanchana
"Fate only takes you so far, then it's up to you to make it happen." — unknown
This quote rings true for Ranil, a Sri Lankan residing in the UK and Kanchana who describes herself as '100% Malaysian made'. Although residing thousands of miles away from each other, two total strangers found their way into each other's arms and one year later, decided on ever after.
Church Ceremony, Luncheon and Dinner Reception
Size of function: 300 – 400 guests
Kanchana is one of the most graceful brides we've ever met. Exuding warmth and totally down-to-earth, she is the epitome of modern Grace Kelly in a full-laced, mermaid cut gown by Manuel Mota for Pronovias. For her bridesmaids, Kanchana purchased sarees from Bangalore in pastel shades of "beautiful morning colours". Despite the mute white and neutral green décor at the Church of St Francis Xavier, the venue was packed to the brim in a burst of colourful sarees by the attendees. After the church ceremony, the couple hosted a wedding luncheon for 400 guests before whisking off to the hotel to rest and get ready for the dinner reception.
Everyone loves a funny guy and that's exactly what Ranil is. So, as one would expect, the dinner reception was filled with lots of love and laughter. To bring a touch of personality to the table (literally), every table number had conversation starters in the form of marriage jokes.
To build the anticipation, we wrote two fictitious love stories on the couple's wedding website, supposedly from the point-of-view of bride and groom respectively. Exaggerated and well… almost too hilarious to be true. The REAL love story was animated as an opening to the wedding dinner right after an impactful opening performance by Dr Joanne Yeoh with her adaptation of "Flight of the Bumble Bee". From Star Wars to football and rugby, jokes were aplenty.
Towards the end of the 8-course dinner (Chinese menu), Kanchana's brother dedicated a song to the couple as the closing performance before the night continued with after-dinner dance party. Each guest received a beautiful hand-made trinket box from Sri Lanka, filled with custom-designed chocolates by Yola Chocolates and home-made fruit cake in custom-made box.
