Richard & Karen | Modern Botanical

After Richard’s wedding proposal in Bhutan, followed by months of scouting venues all over South East Asia and comparing the pros and cons, Richard and Karen finally set their eyes on Alila Soori Bali for their destination wedding. As adventurous travellers with a passion for the outdoors and road less travelled (or luxury backpackers as how Karen would have termed it), the eco-chic 10-bedroom Soori Residence seemed like the perfect fit. Located on the west side of Bali, which is wildly authentic and less explored by the masses, the villas have the view of either the rice paddies or the Indian Ocean. The wedding ceremony was set on a floating stage over the infinity pool, overlooking the black sand beach, followed by the dinner reception at the resort’s courtyard next to the pool. The after party was held at the poolside of the residence.

Since Karen was based in Singapore, most of our discussions took place via Skype. We engaged local vendors in Bali for the flowers, stage, cake, furniture hire and make up artists. Our multi-lingual wedding coordinators spoke Mandarin, Cantonese, Bahasa and English to manage the guests, especially Karen’s family from Shanghai and Richard’s extended family from Jakarta.

Thanks to Bali Metro Digiart for encapsulating every last amazing moment in the video above. Jonn & Melissa | Bali Escapade

Wee Jonn and Melissa’s destination wedding was put together at the very last minute, approximately 3 months prior to the travel date. It was meant to be a pre-wedding holiday, sort of a short getaway with family and bridal party before their big wedding back in Malaysia two weeks after. The decoration details and final details of the wedding were only confirmed 2 days prior, soon after we checked in to Ritz Carlton Bali. It was a very relaxing weekend for everyone and a great time for the couple and bridal party to just chill and catch up. A family and bridal party photo shoot was scheduled with Terralogical a day before the wedding, followed by a poolside Balinese BBQ party at the 3-bedroom oceanfront villa. The wedding ceremony was held the day after on the beach, followed by an intimate reception at the Majestic Chapel.

Day 1 photography by Bonjo, Terralogical and Day 2 photography by Aha, Axioo. Christine & Brendon | Romantic in Pastel

It is always an honour for us when clients refer their family and friends, especially so when we get to plan their siblings’ weddings. Having worked with Christine’s parents back in 2013 for her brother’s wedding, it was a familiar turf for us as we already had a good understanding of the family’s likes and dislikes, organisational style and so forth. We worked with Christine’s parents throughout the planning stage and communicated with Christine and Brendon via e-mails.

The wedding dinner in Kuala Lumpur was a fairly small affair, since the actual wedding took place at Lamont’s Bishops House in Perth. The day started with hair styling and make up for the ladies, followed by some portrait shots around the hotel premises with photographer Sam Leong from Fixer Photography. At 5:30PM, everyone adjourn for the traditional Chinese tea ceremony followed by a champagne cocktail before the dinner commenced at 8PM.

Wearing the most exquisite Pallas Couture, Christine together with Brendon were led by their bridesmaids and groomsmen into the ballroom. After the reception, the couple brought their friends to a nearby club for the after party.

Nataskia van Dam & Ivan Kouzmine | East Meets West

The bride, Nataskia wanted bold colours with a mix of tropical charm and western countryside look to her wedding. Nataskia has Dutch, Chinese and Malay heritage while Ivan is French. Eventhough they are both living in Hague, Netherlands, they decided to host a destination wedding in Kuala Lumpur as a reunion of sort for her family as well as to introduce Ivan to her extended family.

We set out to create a romantic atmosphere, rich with colours with just the right balance of nostalgia. The design elements were kept simple and organic but with a strong colour palette in red, fuchsia pink, yellow, orange and purple. What was supposedly an outdoor occasion with an intimate setting of 40 guests had to be moved indoor due to the forecasted rain. The cosy and intimate colonial ambience of the Seri Negara mansion turned out to be the better option afterall for guests who couldn't stand the humid and sweltering heat outside. After the heart-warming exchange of vows, followed by a 3-course Malay fusion dinner and a wonderful line-up of speeches, the guests continued to party till late.

Geoffrey & Victoria | Tropical Malay

Geoffrey and Victoria had their eyes set on Malaysia as the destination for their wedding ever since their trip here over 10 years ago. Saujana Hotel was the venue of choice as it offers the best of both worlds; a vast greenery by the lake with an outdoor and indoor setup at one of its function rooms with traditional Malay interior coupled with the resort’s close proximity to KL city.

Together with their families, they arrived nine days in advance for the final preparation of their wedding. It was also the first time that our wedding planner met up with the couple after six months of planning and communicating via e-mails.

Liaising with the bestman and bridesmaid over emails, our wedding planner helped organize the buck and doe activities at some hot spots in KL. On the eve of wedding, a casual, Malaysian-style rehearsal breakfast was scheduled at 6:00AM to allow all the guests to mingle, break the ice and recover from jetlag. On the morning of the wedding, the bride’s entourage pampered themselves at the spa followed by champagne brunch in the bridal suite.

The ceremony was very heart-warming, especially in the presence of loved ones who flew in from Beijing, London, Brisbane and Sydney to witness this special moment. The table settings had every bit of the bride’s sexy, vivacious personality with black laced table overlays and black magic roses as the theme flower, handmade black and gold damask place cards and pearl napkin holders. Wood-crafted trinket boxes filled with Malaysian cookies were given away as wedding favours. Since Geoffrey and Victoria are avid travellers, they decided on miniature luggage bags as their wedding cake. These miniature luggage cakes were then given away as souvenirs to guests while the top tiered chocolate mud cake was served as dessert. The party continued on at RP Entertainment Centre. Geoffrey and Victoria took off to South Africa a day after, while we arranged day trips to Malacca for some guests.
