Wedding by Natasha Khoo, The Peak Xperience | Jim Liaw PhotographyIf there is one thing I’m proud about Malaysia, it is our beautiful beaches, especially the wide shores of Sabah. The beach is so perfect it saddens me that it’s not getting the kind of publicity it so deserve. Many couples harbour dreams of tying the knot in Bali, Phuket, Boracay and other more publicly renowned destinations when we have such a beautiful treasure in our very own backyard. The sunset here in Sabah is like a scene straight from a movie. So beautiful, that you’d just stop and drop everything you are doing and just stand in silence for that few minutes to gawk in awe of God’s magnificent wonder. Thanks to Jim Liaw and team for these beautiful set of photos that captured all the essence of joy and happiness and those little details that took Davina, her sister, mom, Eddie, family and friends months and months to prepare.

We love this couple, their families and wonderful friends. I fondly remember a cheeky message/prank that one of the groomsmen, Kavish pulled during the preparation stages, when I had to collect a bag from Eddie from a hotel. Davina, the bride… is every planner’s dream bride… and every planner’s nightmare. There, I said it, with a tongue-in-cheek of course! Brimming with enthusiasm and excitement, Davina is always full of ideas. Being what I call the Pinterest bride, she always had new ideas to incorporate into the wedding. She’s also very patient and lovable. Our planning started off with a Cinderella fairytale theme, and then it developed from thereon to an elegant interpretation of a Rio Carnivale and Havana themed wedding. Since Davina is a competitive Salsa dancer (represented Australia in the World Championship), it was only apt that the theme reflected the couple’s love for dance. However, this wasn’t your usual Rio or Havana-themed or wedding. It didn’t have over-the-top parades and flamboyant  colours. We took what we love about that culture and styles – the feathers, blings, the rhythmic music and festive participation and incorporated them into the wedding.

Cocktail began with the serving of Rosé and a DIY selfie photobooth using iPad. The main feature of the cocktail area was Davina’s dreamy dessert bar in white and silver. It wasn’t easy trying to gather white, quality desserts. Davina’s sister made the wedding cake, cupcakes and cookies. Everything at the bar was really tempting! To name a few, we had Lindt’s white chocolate, Hershey’s cookies and cream kisses, marshmallows, Raffaello chocolates and Australian nougats. Inside the ballroom, we alternated the tables with tall white feathers, candlelabras and floral centrepieces. The only flowers we had were Roses and Dendrobiums. 90% of the props were flown in from KL and Sydney.  There were so many activities going on during the dinner, I had a hard time just trying to fit everything in. If memory serves me correctly, we had 5 dance sets on top of slideshows, videos, speeches, bouquet toss, garter toss, cake-cutting, surprises and the customary toast. All of these before the party had even begun! Even Davina’s dad, Dato Wong was just a great sport! Suprised the guests when he grooved to Greased Lightning that got the guests all up on their feet!

It was a definitely a fun journey and good collaboration between planner and bride and I am truly thankful for that experience to be part of your special day.
